MEU has participated in the first International Conference on Sensors, Networks, Smart and Emerging Technologies (SENSET) 2017/IEEE for Smart Cities held recently in Lebanon with the participation of a number of researchers and specialties in the field of smart cities and urban planning in the world. In this conference, the University presented a discussion paper under the title: “The Use of GIS to Design Smart and Sustainable Cities,” delivered by Acting Head of Architecture Engineering Department/ Faculty of Architecture and Design Prof. Ahmad Shafiq Afaneh. The paper discussed the use of GIS as a tool to design smart cities in addition to the process of modulation by the use of computer based on the remote sensing technology. During the conference, which lasted for three days, a number of papers were presented. These papers discussed the main ideas and studies related to the design of smart cities, urban planning, and mechanisms to enhance the means of modern technology in the planning and design of smart cities.
The Middle East University was founded in 2005 as a Graduate Studies University with twelve specializations. Towards the beginning of the academic year 2008-2009 the university opened twenty specializations for both Graduate and Undergraduate students with the ongoing growth in staff and students.
