Amman- The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Mary Kawar, sponsored the launching ceremony of Local Economic Development Strategic Plan of Greater Municipality of Madaba (2019-2021). The plan was launched from Middle East University’s campus. The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Yacoub Nasereddin, and a number of Excellences. Dr. Kawar confirmed that local development is the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation’s priority. The Minister revealed the Ministry’s adoption of a unified and comprehensive definition for local development in cooperation with various partners. This adoption was based on partnership, the recruitment of efforts, and stimulation of unexploited capabilities to create a better life for civilians in a joint framework between partners.
Dr. Mary Kawar pointed out that the Ministry designed and implemented a number of programmes and plans based on a number of objectives. The first objective deals with developing and enabling local administrations. The second objective aims to create active local economics, capable of establishing an attractive investment environment. While the third objective focuses on promoting the role of civil community institutions, women, and youth in development.
The Minister stated that the government announced its priorities for the upcoming two years, which is an initial step in achieving the National Uplift Project, aiming to exploit Jordanian capabilities and meeting their ambitions towards a better future. Kawar added that the launching of the Local Economic Development Strategic Plan of Greater Municipality of Madaba (2019-2021) is part of executing the National Uplift Project, which is based on true partnership and the vision for establishing a productive state. This vision aims to unleash Jordanian capabilities to achieve a decent standard of living; employ our financial, natural, and human resources to uplift the citizen’s standard of living; and promote independency and economic growth.
In his turn, the Head of Madaba Governorate’s Council, Dr. Yousef Ghlilat, said that Madaba’s launching of the first strategic plan amongst municipalities in Jordan is the result of the joint efforts between public and private sectors. Dr. Ghlilat asserted that this accomplishment represents Royal envisions and directives of His Majesty, King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, in manifesting an inclusive development between all sectors. The Head of Madaba Governorate’s Council praised MEU’s role as an academic institution hosting Madaba’s development initiatives and various activities.
The Vice-President of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at MEU for Community Service, Dr. Sana'a Shiqwarah, affirmed that launching Madaba’s plan from Middle East University reflects the true depth of this strategy, unifying the partners in the development process with its academic, research, and planning aspects. This strategy constructs the elements of strategic thinking, planning, and management. Dr. Shiqwarah added that it also guarantees achieving the objectives of development, confirming that MEU is proud of its achievements regarding its social responsibilities, whether through cognitive and cultural activities, or workshops, volunteering campaigns, academic research and graduation projects, applied studies, or cooperation relations with partners.
Head of the Municipality of Madaba, Eng. Ahmad Al Azayda, proclaimed that launching the plan today is the result of the partners’ joint efforts to issue a document achieving an inclusive development for the Municipality of Madaba to be implemented.
The ceremony included the Head of the Local Development Unit’s, Muhammed Abo Qaoud, presentation of a summary on the strategic plan, reviewing the vision, mission, methodology, academic structure, and development initiatives which the Municipality seeks to implement during the years of 2019-2021. At the end of the ceremony, the Municipality of Madaba honored the event’s patronage and the contributors in the implementation of the plan.
The Middle East University was founded in 2005 as a Graduate Studies University with twelve specializations. Towards the beginning of the academic year 2008-2009 the university opened twenty specializations for both Graduate and Undergraduate students with the ongoing growth in staff and students.
