Amman – Middle East University (MEU) hosted the 19th meeting of Association of Arab Universities, led by the association’s Secretary General Prof. Amr Salama, and in presence of MEU’s Chairman of Board of Trustees Dr. Yacoub Nasereddin, the University President Prof. Salam Al-Mahadin, Assistant Secretary Generals of the association Dr. Khamisi Hamidi and Dr. Abd Al-Rahim Al-Hunaiti, Head of the Arab Universities Governance Council Prof. Mohammad Al-Heileh, and representatives of Arab universities members of the association.
The meeting focuses on accelerated changes and subsequent developments in higher education and scientific research issues at the global and Arab levels.
The meeting issued a number of recommendations, including the need of updating academic programs in line with the concept of current modern development, and working on convening an annual conference of the association’s institutions. In addition to developing the association’s magazine to enable it to enter “Scopes” database, and cooperating with similar institutions which their field of work can be beneficial to the development to the institution, as well as stressing the importance that the scientific institutions of the association are creating specialized studies and conceptual papers.
In this regard, the Secretary-General of the association Professor Amr Salama, expressed his sincere gratitude for the efforts of the Middle East University for its provided initiatives, and for implementing the association’s activities, not to mention its adoption of one of its most important councils, the Arab University Governance Council, all of which contribute to the association’s advancement.
In addition, Prof. Salama emphasized the role of academic institutions in prompting and developing the educational level in universities, considering their vital position as active implementers in the field that play important strategic roles consistent with the vision, plans and practical programs of the association.
In turn, Dr. Nasereddin said that the Middle East University is honored to host this significant meeting, particularly at this challenging stage that joint Arab work is facing in general, and the Arab universities is facing in particular.
He also indicated that the importance of the association came from its place and active role as a field assistant of the Arab League, and at the forefront of its organizations, federations, associations, and councils, which had established the rules for cooperation and coordination in their respective sectors and established specialized councils that created more robust cooperation in many areas.
Dr. Nasereddin pointed out that the role of the Middle East University is to hold the trust and responsibility of the Arab mind, conscience and existence. And that today, it is more than ever called upon to lead the process of the cultural, developmental and moral advancement of our Arab nation. As it is fighting to strengthen its place among nations and consolidate its role in contemporary human life.
The University President Prof. Salam Al-Mahadin explained that the principles and indicators of governance is an approach that the university has been committed to since its establishment, and that this has contributed to the achievement of its current distinct status.
She also added that different institutions, scientific councils, centers and societies have a key role to play in shaping and implementing the association’s programs in areas of publishing scientific research, quality assurance, governance, active student exchange, and faculty members exchange. And that these institutions have several responsibilities that have been a major source of the association’s work and service to the community and university.
For his part, Assistant Secretary-General Dr. Hamidi stated that this meeting is an honorable occurrence that gives researchers importance to their great efforts to elevate their communities, stressing that this meeting comes to achieve the hoped-for modernization of educational programs.
