Amman: The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Middle East University, Senator Dr. Yacoub Nasereddin, in the presence of the University President, Professor Dr. Salam Al-Mahadin, deans, and faculty members, officially sponsored the conference, entitled “New Horizons in Language, Literature, and Translation Studies,” which was held over two days in collaboration with the Association of Professors of English Language, Literature, and Translation in Arab Universities. It attracted 150 male and female researchers from 16 countries.
In this context, Dr. Nasereddin stated that the conference carries a special symbolism and occurs at a pivotal moment for our Arab countries, particularly in the era of globalisation, the information and communication technology revolution, the challenges of educational outcomes, and the rapid transformation of the labour market.
He further emphasised that this conference, organised by the Department of English Language at the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences, represents a pivotal moment for the development of collaborative ties between Arab higher education and scientific research institutions, with the aim of addressing the pressing needs of contemporary human civilisation and defending its legitimate interests and aspirations for security, stability, progress, and prosperity.
In his remarks, the President of the Association of Professors of English Language, Literature, and Translation in Arab Universities, Prof. Jihad Hamdan, highlighted the university’s role as an exemplar institution in Jordan and the Arab world, investing in the intellectual development of Jordanian and Arab researchers and academics, and advancing the higher education sector. He was joined by his deputies in Saudi Arabia, Prof. Awad Al-Shehri, and Palestine, Dr. Mohammed Al-Tamim.
He expressed his appreciation for the university’s endeavours and for providing the opportunity for the second time in less than 3 years for Jordanian, Arab, and foreign academics and researchers to travel to the campus of this academic institution to present their latest research and discuss it in dialogue sessions that bring together skilled specialists to revise it and then publish it.
Dr. Nusaiba Walid Awajan, Head of the Department of English Language and Translation, asserted that this conference, which brings together academics, researchers, and professionals from universities and educational institutions inside and outside Jordan, represents an exceptional platform for the production of recommendations that align with the latest developments in the diverse fields of English language, including language, literature, and translation. Furthermore, the conference serves to explore new horizons that facilitate greater innovation and understanding within the field of English language studies.
It is worth mentioning that the countries participating in the conference are as follows: Jordan, Palestine, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Iraq, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
