Amman: In his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Middle East University, Senator Dr. Yaqoub Nasereddin observed during the Silver Jubilee graduation ceremony that the present era represents a pivotal moment in the history of this nation. Over the course of centuries, it has made a unique and invaluable contribution to the advancement of human civilisation, particularly in the realms of science, literature, values, principles, and ideals. It continues to strive for a renaissance and a renewed sense of pride, for the benefit of future generations and for the advancement of truth, justice, and human dignity on a global scale.
This occurred during the graduation of the Silver Jubilee Cohort, which was attended by the President of the Board of Directors, Dr. Sanaa Shaqwara, and members of the Board, the President of the University, Prof. Salam Al-Mahadin, members of the Board of Trustees, the Board of Deans, a number of cultural coordinators, local community leaders, academic and administrative staff, and the families of the graduates.
The graduation ceremony happens to coincide with the Kingdom’s celebrations of the 25th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s assumption of his constitutional powers. It is a source of great pride for the university to be able to play a part in the significant Jordanian achievements that have occurred during the course of his tenure.
He elucidated that the graduation coincides with the festivities commemorating the silver jubilee of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein’s assumption of his constitutional powers. Over the past 25 years, Jordan has achieved significant advancements across various sectors and at multiple levels. This is largely attributed to the strategic focus on the Jordanian human capital, which has been a core priority for the country’s leaders. Education, in particular, has been identified as a crucial driver for national development, with the understanding that human resources are the true wealth of any nation. Jordan has demonstrated resilience in overcoming crises and challenges through a combination of strong determination, effective planning, and forward-thinking initiatives.
He emphasised that His Majesty the King has directed various committees and bodies towards the issue of empowerment, particularly with regard to youth and women. This was recently discussed in greater detail, with His Majesty outlining the elements of Jordan’s strength and its ability to face challenges and deal with all possibilities in light of the challenging circumstances currently faced by the region. He explained that these capabilities are mainly linked to a willingness for change and modernisation, as well as an expansion of the base of popular participation in decision-making.
In a statement, the President of the University, Prof. Al-Mahadin, highlighted that the institution is on course to celebrate its twentieth anniversary in the near future. She emphasised that the university has made significant progress in a relatively short period of time and that its achievements have been characterised by a commitment to excellence, a dedication to learning and development, and a focus on qualitative improvement. Prof. Al-Mahadin noted that the university has recently undergone a comprehensive transformation towards a more qualitative and applied approach to learning through the implementation of an integrated strategy for teaching and learning. She highlighted that the first phase of this transformation is set to conclude in 2025, with the university aiming to accelerate the process of obtaining international accreditations and improving its international rankings.
She highlighted that Middle East University is distinguished by its comprehensive awareness of the pivotal role played by technological transformations in our societies. The university has set a strategic goal of providing all its academic programmes with digital courses and gradually shifting from traditional disciplines to digital-centric disciplines in all fields of natural, humanitarian, health, and business disciplines. Additionally, the university maintains that modern learning methods qualify students for continuous learning and creative and innovative thinking and provide them with skills that help them develop entrepreneurial projects that have replaced the traditional role of the university as a classroom.
Furthermore, Prof. Al-Mahadin highlighted the significant advancements made by the university in a number of scientific and research projects aligned with national priorities. These developments have been pivotal in enabling the university to assume distinguished positions in various rankings. Additionally, Prof. Al-Mahadin underscored the university’s commitment to intensifying its efforts in serving the local community. This includes the development of volunteer work and student participation in activities that have a substantial positive impact on the immediate and distant surroundings of the university.
In addition to that, a number of students delivered speeches in both Arabic and English, expressing gratitude towards their homeland and commitment to continuing its development. They highlighted the vital role of the university in shaping their future as leaders, influencers, and contributors to societal progress. They also emphasised the importance of the academic environment in supporting their achievements.
It is worth noting that this cohort is considered the eighteenth for the master’s students, the fourth for the higher diploma students, and the fifteenth for the bachelor’s students for the academic year 2023-2024.
