A recent meeting was held at which the Secretary General of the Union of Arab Universities, Prof. Amr Salameh, the Secretary General of the Arab Universities Governance Council (AUGC), the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Middle East University, Senator Dr. Yaqoub Nasereddin, the President of the Council, Prof. Salam Al-Mahadeen, and the Director of the Arab Universities Governance Council, Prof. Mohammed Al-Haila, discussed the application of governance principles and indicators to enhance the quality of Arab universities, disseminate the culture of digital governance, and cultivate executive capabilities.
The meeting centred on the significance of developing governance models to oversee the alterations affecting university education and its knowledge structure. This is occurring concurrently with the perception of universities as knowledge generators, promoters of advancement, and drivers of sustainability.
The meeting, which was attended by Prof. Mouawad Mohammed Al-Khouli, President of New Mansoura University, Prof. Tariq Al-Qurum, Vice President of Al-Zaytuna University, Prof. Hussein Shank, President of Palestine Technical University-Khodouri, and Prof. Hussein Shank, President of Warith Al-Anbiya University, Prof. Ibrahim Said Al-Hayawi, President of the Open University of Libya, and His Excellency Professor Abulgasim Shalouf, emphasised the role of governance in supporting entrepreneurship initiatives, promoting partnerships with industry, and contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy.
The meeting recommended the preparation of a guide for the governance of Arab universities, both educational and administrative, as well as the preparation of the Fifth International Conference on Governance of Digitisation.
