Middle East University in cooperation with German International Cooperation (GIZ), organized the 2021 12th International Renewable Engineering Conference IREC.

The conference was held online on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 10:00 AM. It was technically co-sponsored by IEEE Power & Energy Society and all accepted papers have been indexed in the IEEE Xplore digital library. AT-SGIRES held four special sessions as a part of the conference to disseminate the project aims, outcomes, modules, its e-learning platform, the training centre, and the cutting-edge equipment of the centre. At the first session, the president of the Middle East University, Prof. Alaaldeen Alhalhouli welcomed the attendees, then Dr. Adib Allahham started the first session by giving a brief description of project aims, outcomes, modules, and the E-Learning Platform of the project. He showed explicitly the ATSGIRES e-learning Platform, how the chapters are distributed, the laboratories, exams and handbooks. During the session, Dr. Hani Muhsen from German Jordanian University conducted a training session to introduce the smart laboratory equipment at German Jordanian University. He gave a presentation on the training centre, ATSGIRES Equipment, and the current test technologies of smart grids. From his side, Dr. Adib Allahham gave a presentation on Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) Simulation for testing Smart Grids. Prof. Ahmad Harb (as a guest) gave a presentation on the Impacts of Renewable Energy on Power Electric Grid. At the end of the first session, Eng. Shukri Halaby (as a guest) gave a presentation on Lessons learned from COVID 19 for improved grid resiliency and higher RE penetration”. Other sessions were held by AT-SGIRES team members and addressed several topics related to the ATSGIRES project.  Finally, the total number of participants in the conference was 365 from 18 countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Jordan, Syria, Cyprus, Morocco and others and the majority of the participants’ (around 286) attended the special sessions of AT-SGIRES.
