Amman: Middle East University, namely the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering and Design, hosted a dialogue session entitled “Gaza, The Phoenix of Palestine.”
Dr. Yahya Al-Sarraj, President of the Union of Gaza Strip Municipalities, emphasised the endeavours undertaken to promote the city through sustainable development initiatives. In his presentation, Dr. Yasser Abu Hashim, Coordinator of the Gaza Reconstruction Platform from Berlin, underscored the significance of embracing contemporary technologies and international frameworks to facilitate reconstruction.
The Director of Public Projects at the Gaza Municipality, Eng. Maher Salem, presented pragmatic plans to deal with the prevailing urban and service crises, while the Director of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit, Eng. Ayman Abu Shaaban, delivered a presentation on the role of technology in creating a comprehensive development map that would revitalise various sectors.
The Head of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Shaden Abu Safiya, stated that the session was a call for solidarity and a journey to redraw the features of hope in a city that has transformed its ruins into symbols of survival and its people into icons of steadfastness.
The students of the Department of Architecture exhibited a remarkable level of engagement during the event, demonstrating a profound commitment and a strong willingness to contribute their ideas to the reconstruction of Gaza.
