Amman: The Faculty of Media at Middle East University has launched an initiative in line with the objectives of the Regional Journalism Fellowship, which is themed “Dialogue Journalism.” This initiative aspires to bring about the desired change in the structure of journalism.
The fellowship, in which Dr. Ruba Zeidan, a faculty member, participated, featured 34 journalists from various Arab countries and was organised by the King Abdullah Center for Interfaith Dialogue (KAICIID).
The initiative is based on the concept of illuminating the narratives, challenges, and achievements of dialogue journalism. This form of journalism serves as a beacon of hope, facilitating the bridging of perspectives, the countering of hate speech, and the promotion of critical thinking.
She further indicated that the Faculty of Media has succeeded in exposing its students to the multiple roles of dialogue journalism, which humanises the stories of diverse communities in the Arab region, especially marginalised minorities, in a challenge to break stereotypes, foster a sense of solidarity, and support social justice issues.

Dr. Zeidan will employ the insights of her fellowship by working on awareness workshops followed by various trainings targeting media students and enabling them to produce visual, audio, and written journalistic content that showcases the role of dialogue journalism and targets stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, ensure that these important societal issues are addressed, and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
