Learning Management System
What is the Learning Management System Moodle?
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs. In MEU we are using Moodle as LMS which is an open-source e-learning management system designed using PHP script language and MySQL databases. It was primarily designed to provide teachers, administrators and learners an interactive system provided to the learner through ICT technology. It employs an integrated electronic environment where courses are uploaded electronically, and facilitates students’ guidance and the management and evaluation of resources and processes. This system also enables students to have active interaction with the content of the platform, their professors, and their colleague synchronously and asynchronously in the time, place and speed that suit each learner’s conditions and capacities.
This system provides the following options to instructors and students:
- Course Materials are available online.
- Several communication tools are available for communication with instructors and other students.
- Evaluation tools are available to assess students’ improvement.
- Uploading exercises, tests and polls and receiving answers and feedback.
- Providing immediate or non-immediate feedback to students.
- Browsing through materials easily through multimedia.
- Mitigating the burden of reviewing exercises and marking exams, and providing the opportunity to focus on teaching.
- Following up with students’ skills and supervising curricular activities.
- Providing academic resources for each course, in the format of files, videos, links, etc.
- Communicating with other students and instructors using the forums, live chat rooms and the wiki.
